Description

KTR Corporation was founded in Michigan City, Indiana in 1988 and is an ISO 9001:2000 Certified, SAP driven organization with a 42,000 square foot manufacturing, warehousing and sales office facility that employs a team of over fifty power transmission specialists to ensure the excellent quality of KTR Couplings and other products. KTR’s strategic location and product mix means they are able to supply KTR Couplings and other products to customers throughout North and Central America.

KTR manufactures well-engineered, high quality components which improve the performance of the entire drive system. KTR products have high standards for capacity and compact design. KTR’s product line began over 40 years ago with the BoWex® curved tooth gear coupling and the ROTEX® torsionally flexible jaw coupling. Continuous advancement and development have consistently lead KTR to new applications and products.

  • KTR Couplings

ROTEX® couplings are characterized by small dimensions, low weight and low mass moments of inertia yet transmit high torques. Running quality and service life of the coupling are improved by accurate all-over machining. Their application is ideal for transmitting torque while damping torsional vibrations and absorbing shocks produced by the uneven operation of certain prime movers.

The POLY-NORM® coupling is a torsionally flexible, shear type shaft coupling. It has an axial plug-in design with a unique short over all length. The POLY-NORM® can be used in nearly all types of machinery and is ideal for the pump industry. The POLY-NORM® coupling compensates for shaft misalignment of all kinds and safely transmits the torque.

The POLY coupling is a torsionally flexible, shear shaft coupling for general machinery. It is assembled by axially pluging the hubs into each other and has excellent dampening characteristics. Its unique features are the flexible elastomeric elements that are located in both coupling halves.

REVOLEX® KX is a torsionally flexible, failsafe pin & bush coupling. It can be plugged in axially and is characterized by its short design. In addition, REVOLEX® KX allows for an easy disassembly of the elastomer rings including the pins while being assembly. Taking into account the transmittable torque, REVOLEX® KX is based on the POLY-NORM® coupling.

BoWex® Curved-tooth gear couplings® are flexible shaft connections for a positive torque transmission and specifically suitable to compensate for axial, radial and angular shaft misalignment.

GEARex® couplings made from steel with grease lubrication and toroidal sealing ring correspond to the international standard. Being flexible shaft connections they are suitable for a positive torque transmission. In addition, they ensure to compensate for axial, radial and angular shaft displacements.

The Monolastic® coupling will compensate for radial and angular displacements with extremely low restoring forces via the elastomer part. That is why it is particulary suitable for the drive of hydraulic pumps in individual or multiple arrangements.

The RADEX®-N is a backlash-free, torsionally rigid and maintenance-free all-steel coupling. The laminae that are extremely rigid in sense of rotation are made from high-strength, stainless spring steel and enable a compensation for high displacements with low restoring forces. By reason of the all-steel design the RADEX®-N can be used in drives with temperatures of up to 280 °C.

RIGIFLEX®-N couplings are used on such applications which require a reliable and maintenance-free torque transmission with shaft displacement at the same time. RIGIFLEX®-N was developed for pump drives in particular. This coupling system corresponds to the regulations of API 610 and may be supplied in accordance with API 671 optionally. (API = American Petroleum Institute).

TOOLFLEX® is a metal bellow-type coupling, a coupling system which has proven its worth in the field in many cases. The metal bellow compensates perfectly for axial, radial and angular displacements. At the same time its geometric shape allows for high torsional stiffness and a low mass moment of inertia. TOOLFLEX® is produced in eleven sizes for maximum torques up to 340 Nm.

The RADEX®-NC is a line particularly developed for the servo technology. In this coupling a package of torsionally rigid steel laminae that are soft in bending ensures a reliable compensation for axial, angular and radial shaft displacements. As all-metal coupling – the laminae are made from stainless steel – the RADEX®-NC can even be used with high temperatures (up to 200 °C) and under aggressive ambient conditions. The RADEX®-NC is manufactured in 6 sizes from size 5 to 35 for max. torques of up to 200 Nm.

The MINEX®-S is a permanent-magnetic synchronous coupling that transmits torque through magnetic forces between the internal and the external rotor. It ensures a hermetic separation of the drive and the driven side in its main function as sealing element in pumps and agitators. For critical media like aggressive acids etc. it serves as a reliable seal and prevents serious leakages occuring.

COUNTEX® is a three-parted, backlash-free and torsionally stiff coupling mainly used in measuring and control technology. Its axial plug-in ability combined with the geometry of hubs results in a coupling system with a specifically easy assembly offering options of mounting fitting with processing.

  • Other KTR Product Lines

KTR also manufactures an extensive line of Torque Limiters including RUFLEX, SYNTEX and KTR SI. KTR Clamping Sets include self-centering, not self-centering, external clamping set, and stiff shaft coupling products. The KTR DATAFLEX measuring system offers a complete solution for measuring torque and speed at low cost with a new patented measurement technique, very high signal bandwidth and is maintenance-free and contactless.

KTR Hydraulic Components include Bellhousing and accessories, damping elements, tanks and thermomanagement. Miscellaneous components include precision joints and clamping nut.

  • KTR-STOP Brake System

KTR introduced a newly developed brake system in 2011. KTR-STOP is a hydraulic brake system based on an existing product which has been further developed to include, among other features; corrosion-resistant protection; compact and lightweight design; long service life of the lining which lowers operating expenses; hydraulic power packs and an intelligent control system further increase the adaptability of the system to conditions found in offshore wind parks, surface mining, and other applications.

KTR-STOP® brake systems display their full strength as yaw brakes for aligning and locking the turbine in the wind. The permanent change between “STOP and GO” requests for particularly low-wear components with gigantic locking pressure of up to 500 kN per brake in order to protect the turbine against wind gust and dynamic load permanently. On large turbines above one megawatt, up to ten active disc brake callipers having such power are used.
